Great Songs Currently Under Your Radar!

Australian singer-songwriter Betty Who has been under my radar since her 80s pop-inspired smash "Somebody Loves You" was featured in a viral proposal video set in a Utah Home Depot. Though the song has been out for public enjoyment since November 2012, the delicious pop track did not gain traction until last year, leading up to its eventual March 2014 takeover of Billboard's Dance/Club Play chart.

"Somebody Loves You" is one of those rare pop moments where the track becomes instantly lodged in your cranium for all the right reasons. With one play, the carefree nature of the love song will bring a smile to one's face as Who's tender vocals allows of sense of warmth to overtake the listener. "Who cares that you get home safe, who knows that you can't be replaced," she sings before the infectious dancefloor-ready chorus finally comes through. By the way, it's glorious.

While it does carry a heartfelt, head over heels in love vibe, the inescapable pop jam was said to have been inspired by the tragic death of Whitney Houston in 2012. The bit of information does give the tune a underlying somber message, but with sparkling production, an 80s yet modern beat, and the sound of pure joy, Betty Who's critically acclaimed creation will make any frown turn upside down. This insanely adorable female artist is one everyone should take note of, her chart topping career is just getting started.

England-based Rixton shot to viral fame with their music video in support of decent single "Make Out", parodying buzzed about videos from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Robin Thicke. However, for "Me and My Broken Heart", the lead single off their upcoming album, the four-piece boy band got serious and released a catchy pop number built around a sample of "Lonely No More" by Rob Thomas.

Though they have mentioned the beat of their new hit was incredibly similar to that of Thomas' solo smash for a reason, some critics viewed the comparisons negatively instead of as an act being inspired by one of their favorite musicians. With the similarity drama put behind them, "Me and My Broken Heart" is a well-crafted break up song that is slowly climbing its way to the top regions of the Billboard Hot 100, currently sitting at #41.The success is well deserved.

Many may immediately perceived Rixton as just another typical boy band, a la One Direction and The Wanted, but there is something present in their current single that may showcase their real talent to the mainstream audience. With a knowledge of instrumentals, strong vocals and the ability to craft a nice pop hook, even if it may have been somewhat sampled, the boys are doing a swell job at paving a successful career path for themselves in the U.S.

Though officially release in November 2012, "Believer" by New York-based American Authors did not capture my attention until it was released as iTunes' Single of the Week a couple of months ago. The rock group are currently enjoying the massive success of their current single, "Best Day Of My Life", but it is their debut track that won me over. The production is fast-paced, the energy is high and the message is slightly inspirational.

"I'm just a believer, that things will get better, some can take it or leave it, but I don't wanna let it go," the band sings on the radio-ready chorus, as the alternative rock sound seems similar to what has been taking over the airwaves in the past year. There has been a large portion of the radio audience who has been drifting away from the pop/dance craze recently so maybe American Authors have a few hits on their hands.

"Believer" is an uncomplicated, sing along-worthy alternative track that is supported by intriguing indie-like production. The instrumentals take center stage, but never to a point where they appear to overshadow the impressive vocal abilities of the band. They may be promoting another hit at the moment, but the group should not look past the obvious success this uptempo rock track could achieve in the future. American Authors have not even put out their debut album and people are already talking.
