Song Review: Following a Member Departure, Little Mix Strengthens Their Bond on Touching "Between Us" Single

After the unexpected departure of Jesy Nelson last year amid "blackfishing" accusations, the intact Little Mix trio continue their journey forward.

Following sixth studio album Confetti and three additional Top 10 UK singles ("Confetti", "Heartbreak Anthem" and "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)"), members Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie prep upcoming greatest hits album Between Us with the release of the project's title track.

To celebrate the group's ten-year anniversary, the new "Between Us" serves as a friendship battle cry, promising each other that nothing will break their bond. The trio recalls their ups and downs on the mid-tempo ballad co-written by MNEK.

With references to many of their previous singles, Little Mix remain defiant and determined. Their "Wings" are bruised yet functional, their friendship gives them "Power" to break career records, and easily "Bounce Back" from setbacks as long as they remain unified.

"We walked through the fire, and as the flames got higher, it made us survivors, yeah it made us fighters," Leigh-Anne beautifully sings on the pre-chorus.

"Between Us" does not depend on infectious beats or a radio-geared hook. However, the group's trademark energy is present. The song's true strength lies in passionate vocal performances from all three female artists and its heartfelt universal message.

Though Little Mix recently became the first girl group to garner 100 weeks inside the UK Official Singles Chart and are the most played of the 21st century in the United Kingdom, the underlying theme of "Between Us" along with the greatest hits album does signal a possible disbandment. Shame, as the new release is their most riveting and important in recent memory.

   Now, go hug your bestie!
