Production trio Cash Cash have three albums under their belt, however, their biggest hit in the U.S. peaked at a moderate number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013 ("Take Me Home" feat. Bebe Rexha deserves a listen right now). They are looking to change that. With a fourth studio album on the horizon, the electro/dance group presents the project's EDM/hip hop-influenced lead single, the infectious "Devil".
Featuring the vocals of heavy hitters Busta Rhymes, B.o.B and Neon Hitch, the newly released "Devil" is a special, refreshing blend of rap verses, club floor satisfying electronic beats and a female sung, pop-leaning hook that wouldn't sound out of place on the radio airwaves. The lead single could simply be considered a color-by-numbers attempt at chart glory, but when inspected in depth, there's much more to the formula and vocal performances.
Neon Hitch gets the ball moving with a vulnerable, slightly explicit delivery on the chorus that proves she is more than capable of carrying a promoted single. "I've been dancing with the devil, he was always good to me, and I've been working in the shadow, of a friendly enemy," she admits before an array of heavy, pulsating beats come pouring through. Her contributions actually make up a bulk of the new release. Thank God!
B.o.B is next to take the reigns. With a flow referencing the bad guy role, stepping on toes, and moving one's hips, the verse is a fast paced, slight dig at the other party in a complicated relationship. Busta Rhymes steps up to the plate with a more provocative contribution asking why the lady is still wearing any clothes and making passes at him. His verses actually puts the concept of "Devil" into proper prospective.
"Devil" has a lot going on, but thankfully it all fits together in the perfect puzzle. The backing horns, the dance-worthy, electro-tinged production, the spitting flows from the featured rappers and the golden pop hook from Neon Hitch that nicely ties the pieces into one contagious, thrilling and radio friendly single. The rap/pop/dance formula has been overused, but Cash Cash attacks it from a different angle.
