Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's 'Despacito' Hits 50th Week at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs Chart

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, already owns the record for the most weeks atop the Hot Latin Songs chart, but now the single reaches a new milestone: a 50th week at No. 1. On the list dated April 14, the track nets a 50th nonconsecutive week in the chart's penthouse.

"Despacito" achieved the most weeks atop the chart earlier in 2018, when it surpassed the 41-week No. 1 run of Enrique Iglesias' "Bailando," featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona. "Bailando" notched its 41 weeks at No. 1 -- consecutively -- between May 17, 2014 and Feb. 21, 2015.

"Despacito" debuted at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs, on the list dated Feb. 4, 2017, and moved to No. 1 on Feb. 18. It has been No. 1 in every week since, except for a 12-week stretch (Oct. 21, 2017 through Jan. 3, 2018) when "Mi Gente," by J Balvin and Willy William, featuring Beyoncé, was No. 1.

How long will "Despacito" continue to rule Hot Latin Songs? There's actually a tight margin between the Nos. 1 and 2 titles on the latest chart. At No. 2, Nicky Jam and J Balvin's "X" is steady, but gaining, as it improves in both airplay and streams. It actually is ahead of "Despacito" in airplay, though trailing in both sales and streams.

However, with "Despacito" in the news on April 10 -- after hackers briefly deleted the video from YouTube after the clip recently celebrated its 5 billionth view -- the track could see a resurgence in streams (and overall chart points) on next week's chart.
