This moment has been coming for a long time.... I must have started this scarf in early November, when I noticed that
my first version of the pattern was no longer in residence. It is the
ZickZack scarf by Christy Kamm. It is such a simple pattern, the only stitch you need to know is a knit stitch. The patterns comes from knitting two stitches together alternated with knitting twice into one stitch over a 12 stitch pattern repeat. This is done front and back. Once the pattern is set (after two or three rows), it is a breeze to knit and is suited for watching the telly or chatting away. To be honest, it does get a bit boring after a while. I made this one shorter than the first (very much missed) scarf.
The colour changes are achieved in the most simple manner, too. It is a bit like 'vertical stranded knitting' (if such a thing exists). The pattern asks for two colourways of a self striping yarn. The two colourways are alternated for two rows each. There is no need to break the yarn so no ends to sew in.
The yarn suggestion for this pattern is Lang Yarns Mille Colori Baby, which is a lovely lovely yarn. For reasons not entirely clear to me I chose Drops Delight instead. This is a pretty yarn, too, but not quite as pretty. It is also half the price and stocked in our local yarn shop, an easy option. I kinda wish I had been a bit patient and ordered the yarn I really wanted.
Still, it is a nice scarf and I have been wearing it these past two days. What have you been making lately? Do tell. xx
